Ruby Pearl Thomas

Ruby Thompson Thomas, Age 74,  of the Maple Grove Community of Macon County, TN passed away Monday afternoon, January 4, 2016 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage, TN.  Funeral services for Ruby Thompson Thomas were conducted Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Elder J.B. Shoulders officiating.  Pallbearers were Alex Walton, Jeff Gregory, Mike Gregory, Kevin Smith, Louie Minchey and Michael Taylor.

Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.

She was born Thursday, May 1, 1941 in Smith County, TN, one of six children born to the late Harley and Berthie (Sircy) Thompson.   On September 30, 1960, she married Donald Thomas and they shared 41 years together, before he preceded her in death on November 2, 2001.  In addition to her husband and parents, her brother, Earnest Thompson preceded her in death. She was a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church #2. 

Ruby, along with her husband Donald, ran the Old Time Missionary Baptist Old Ministers and Orphan’s Home from 1980 until 1990, where she was blessed with many children that she called her own.  She was also owner and operator of Cothron’s Grocery for 23 years.  She was a member of the Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church #2.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society, loved her pets and enjoyed socializing with people.

She is survived by:  Son and daughter-in-law:  Patrick and Lavette Thomas, Daughter and son-in-law:  Mary and Steve Walton, all of Lafayette, TN, Brothers and sisters-in-law:  L.B. and Myra Thompson, Larry and Lisa Thompson, Sister:  Linda Thompson, all of Pleasant Shade, Sister:  Carolyn Lowe, of Franklin, KY, Grandchildren:  Kate Walton, of Lafayette, TN and Alex Walton and his companion Alexa Huffer, of Knoxville, TN, Step-grandchildren:  Michael Taylor, Heather Taylor, both of Lafayette, TN, Ariel Taylor, of Westmoreland, TN, 5 Great-grandchildren, along with all her Children from the Orphans home.
