William Smith Knight

William (Billy) Smith Knight, age 90 of Lafayette, TN passed away Thursday afternoon, October 21, 2021 at the Macon Community Hospital in Lafayette. Billy is at the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN.


Graveside Services & Interment for Billy Smith Knight will be conducted Saturday afternoon, October 23, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. from the Driver Cemetery with Dr. Phoebe Helm officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Family request memorials be made to the Driver Cemetery. You may make these memorials by calling or coming by the funeral home.

Billy was the second of five boys and two girls born to Jesse Alfred and Martha Ellen Hale Knight. As Private First Class, he served the U S Army for 8 years (three active duty and five in reserves) and was wounded in Korea. He spent most of his work life as a welder for Cramer Chair in Kansas City. After retiring, he returned to Macon County. His hobbies included deep sea diving, spear fishing, feeding the squirrels and playing with his dogs. He loved children and animals and enjoyed teaching his nieces and nephews to swim, fish and hunt.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Pryor, and four brothers: Webb, Jack, Bobby and Russell and one nephew, Roy David Pryor. He is survived by his sister, Phoebe Helm, sister in laws, Freeda Knight and Virginia Evans, and five nieces: Shelia Pryor, Monica Blackshear, Tabitha Helm, Liz Battaglia, and Jackie Kidwell and three nephews: Wayne Pryor, Bryan Knight and Robert Knight.
